Dear Kevin, it's important to know that the -14 LUFS for loudest track
in an album is quite consistent with a -16 LUFS integrated loudness. So
there is no serious discrepancy there. Eelco has studies of I think 50
or more music pieces where the average for the album is at least 2 dB
lower than the loudest track, or lower.
So this remains within the -16 through -20 LUFS recommendation of the
subcommittee for integrated loudness.
I'll be proposing to the streaming loudness subcommittee that we revise
the recommendation such that if album normalization is used (and
recommended) that accepting a higher target than was used for track
loudness would not be a discrepancy. We'll use Eelco's data as support.
Best wishes,
Bob
