We shouldn't be surprised that judges prefer the louder recordings in
(presumably) loudness unnormalized auditions - that's what that side of the
fight has always been about. What you (and the artists and other engineers)
were able to pull off is to keep the recordings from being fatiguing - the
musical crush.
