Bob Ludwig knew about it for quite some time and I shared it with Thomas Lund about half a year ago. Now it is time to make some noise about it. </div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">It is about the 'Karma button'. The idea is simple: add a 'donate to this artist' button to the music streaming app interface so people who know that one stream does not bring much money to their favorite artist and like to support him a bit more can send the artist a dollar. The idea has been suggested by other people in the past, but so far the practical implementation has been too problematic. Streaming services do not pay to the artists but to the master owners - often the labels. And those are not the ones that should receive the donation. I solved that problem by adding the Dutch neighbouring rights organization "Sena" to the equation. They have records of most tracks and can automate this task.</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">Just before AES I was at Tidal in Oslo and suggested this 'Karma button' idea to their management team. They responded enthusiastically (and this was the 'little secret' I shared with Bob Ludwig during our dinner). A couple of weeks later however they told me that they had decided to not implemented it on short term. I decided to propose it to my Spotify contact. He was enthusiastic and promoted it to his top management, but did not get a response. He then advised me to tweet directly to Daniel Ek, and so I did. Daniel responded immediately with enthusiasm and suggested to make a new entry in the Spotify Community to receive votes. Since I don't see an advantage to keep it a secret anymore, I decided to follow this route.</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">Please go to the Spotify Community <a href="https://community.spotify.com/t5/Idea-Submissions/Your-Music-Donate-To-This-Artist-Karma-button/idi-p/3963851" class="">https://community.spotify.com/t5/Idea-Submissions/Your-Music-Donate-To-This-Artist-Karma-button/idi-p/3964737</a></div><div class=""><div class="">Become a Community member (don't forget to fill in your name).</div><div class="">And click on '+ vote'.</div></div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">Let's spread the word and see if we can make this happen.</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">I wish you all good Karma and nice Christmas days.</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">Cheers,</div><div class="">Eelco</div><div class=""><br class=""></div></div>_______________________________________________<br class="">MLA mailing list<br class=""><a href="mailto:MLA@grimmaudio.nl" class="">MLA@grimmaudio.nl</a><br class="">http://grimmaudio.nl/mailman/listinfo/mla_grimmaudio.nl<br class=""></div></blockquote></div><br class=""></div></body></html>
