[MLA] Christmas present for the music world

Hi Bob,
Remind that the labels charge considerably for the music. So the streaming companies don't make much money and can only become profitable if they become so big that they have a monopoly position (this seems to be the major goal in the current internet driven company world...). The stream revenues will still go to the labels (or other master owners), there's nothing to do about that. The Karma button goes around all this and by adding the Sena organization to the equation I make sure that the 'makers' like musicians and producers are paid with the Karma donation, not the 'creators' like composers (who should get their money via the labels).
Cheers,
Eelco
> Eelco's proposal is a very very good start, but it seems to me it's really a workaround for the streaming companies who don't respect the artists who should not be getting fractions of a penny per play. Correct me if I'm wrong, here's how I think of it:
> We're not going to ever see their books, but what do you think the balance sheets of any named streaming company look like. If we factor in R&D and the salaries of their employees, and the costs of the streaming network (which are considerable) at a certain point after the R&D has been recouped a lot of this is profit that has to go to the artists. So in the long run they have to pay up, and Eelco's proposal is a workaround that let's them off the hook. If their structure is such that they aren't making enough income to pay the artists then the whole thing is an exploitation of the artists that bring subscribers to their table.
> I do want to donate to the artists and support Eelco's proposal, but let's remember, this reduces the pressure on the streaming company to pay the artist themselves.
