Clearly you are dealing with a good artist and so it can be whatever size
she likes.

The loudness race is so so unnecessary. Here's proof: Lindsey Webster, one
of my finest artists that I have mastered. Smooth jazz is the category
she's in but trust me, this is soulful, punchy vocal-driven jazz with a
great band and arrangements (no samples here!).... And although this is
another genre subject to some horrendously squashed and distorted songs and
albums in the past decade ---- But it doesn't have to be. Lindsey is a very
popular, enchanting, artist with excellent, soulful performances, great
band, great original compositions, who has been at the top of the Billboard
Charts in the past year: Lindsey Webster.

I decided to measure the loudness of this popular album I mastered: "Back
To Your Heart".

The Album: "Back To Your Heart" reached peak position #3 in Billboard jazz
albums. Entire album: integrated program level -14.1 LUFS LRA 7.2 LU PLR
about 14 dB. Numbers don't tell you everything or anything about the music,
but trust me, they are a positive indication that Bob Katz's mastered sound
is going to kick and make you dance.

Back to Your Heart single is in position #3 in Smooth Jazz songs:
integrated program level -12.9 LUFS, LRA 6 LU, PLR almost 13 dB!

So it can be done. It sounds great, the label and the artist and the mix
engineer are all thrilled with the sound and the mastering and they brought
it to the charts and radio. So don't reach the conclusion that it has to be
loud to be a winner!

Bob
