Dear friends, 

It is with great proud that I present to you an important project that I have been working on together with mastering engineer (and initiator of the project) Bob Katz, mastering engineer Ian Shepherd and sound engineer Matt Mayfield, also known as “The Loudness Petition Group”. Please sign our petition at Change.org: https://www.change.org/p/music-streaming-services-bring-peace-to-the-loudness-war, and ask your friends to join in signing.

Consumers and producers - in fact everyone who loves music - have suffered from the loudness war in music production for a very long time. Since the major source of music has now definitely moved from CD to Streaming Services, there is a chance to end the war. The solution is called “loudness normalization”: align the loudness of the tracks in stead of the peaks. Last autumn, the AES has released a recommendation for the target level in music streaming and in the petition we ask the streaming services to adopt it and turn it on by default. The transfer to a loudness normalized stream is just a button push for them, all the data needed for the normalization is already there. Please help us with kindly asking all the Streamers to adopt loudness normalization to offer a better consumer experience and open the gate to an improved sound quality at the same time.
